Different Techniques to Quantify the Driver Alertness
Driving is a daily activity throughout the world. However, driving at highways or city requires significant cognitive and motor skills such as visual-spatial ability, memory and information processing and rapid reaction. Recent studies show lack of driver alertness to be a major cause of automobile accidents on roadways across the world. The perceived state of alertness is a complex physiologic...
متن کاملStrategies to Improve Alertness during Extended Deployments
During extended deployments there are a number of strategies available to increase alertness. The initial approach is to optimise work rest patterns and the tool being developed at QinetiQ will make this process simpler for commanders. The judicious use of naps is the second approach recommended. The choice of nap duration should take into account the problem of sleep inertia and allow sufficie...
متن کاملAlertness Detection Of Driver Using MEMS & Eye Blink Sensor
This paper presents analysis of eye state and head pose (HP) for continuous monitoring of alertness of a vehicle driver. Most existing approaches to visual detection of non-alert driving patterns rely either on eye closure or head nodding angles to determine the driver drowsiness or distraction level. The proposed scheme uses features such as eye index (EI), pupil activity (PA), and HP to extra...
متن کاملMonitoring Head/Eye Motion for Driver Alertness with One Camera
We describe a system for analyzing human driver alertness. It relies on optical flow and color predicates to robustly track a person’s head and facial features. Our system classifies rotation in all viewing directions, detects eye/mouth occlusion, detects eye blinking, and recovers the 3D gaze of the eyes. We show results and discuss how this system can be used for monitoring driver alertness.
متن کاملInvestigating Driver Fatigue versus Alertness Using the Granger Causality Network
Driving fatigue has been identified as one of the main factors affecting drivers' safety. The aim of this study was to analyze drivers' different mental states, such as alertness and drowsiness, and find out a neurometric indicator able to detect drivers' fatigue level in terms of brain networks. Twelve young, healthy subjects were recruited to take part in a driver fatigue experiment under dif...
